So, we brought you an interview with Husbands’ Writer/Producer Jane Espenson. Now it’s time to get the scoop on the estrogen in front of the camera of the marriage equality comedy. You may know Alessandra Torresani as the adorable cylon Zoe of Caprica or you may have also seen rocking some dramatic chops in Warehouse 13, CSI, Bones, ER, and Arrested Development. Digital Chick TV Creative Director hit up Alessandra about her quirky Husbands character, comedy, and the fun in a short skirt.
DARYN: So, what is your role on Husbands?
ALESSANDRA: Let me tell you a little bit about this fabulous show! I play the larger than life, crazy, fun, silly, old school comedian Haley! She is Cheeks’ BFF for life and can’t live without him. She is beyond co-dependent of him and literally can’t pick out a pair of shoes without his approval. Although at times she’s a little too nuts, it’s all in good fun! And hey, just another excuse for a cocktail. She’s traumatized that Cheeks didn’t have her at the wedding, because of course it’s all about her! She has to adjust to this new world in which she must share Cheeks with Brady, ugh… just some dumb athlete with a pretty face! Just kidding!
DARYN: Will you have a romantic interest?
ALESSANDRA: Will I have some romance in my life? Well no, but maybe Haley will!!! Let’s hope because all the action she’s getting is from Cheeks’ dog Beau! Wah wah!
DARYN: I have to imagine that this set was just a blast. What was the shooting process like?
ALESSANDRA: Wait, we shot a tv show?! I just assumed this was a documentary on my life! It was beyond a blast! It didn’t feel like work at all. The laughs were contagious and didn’t stop! I miss it already!
DARYN: After a few scifi acting gigs, you now really get to flex your comedic chops! So who are some of your comedic inspirations?
ALESSANDRA: Ladies in comedy are inspirations for this character as well as just inspirations of my life! A few women move me every single day and truly make me know I will make others laugh as they did so beautifully — Phyllis Diller, Lucille Ball, Roseanne Barr and of course Molly Shannon!!!
DARYN: Let’s talk important things like wardrobe! You definitely got some cute outfits on Husbands. Did you get to keep them?
ALESSANDRA: How totes adorbz was my wardrobe! Fun fact: it all was already mine! We had an amazing costume designer, but I just knew Haley needed to wear my most extravagant outfits! The shorter the better right?!
