YouTube Has a Panda & Why You Should Know About It.

Adding to the recent rush of changes to online video networks lately, YouTube is now testing a new re-design called Project Panda, which appears to be more friendly to professional video.

The default “Panda” player is slightly larger and distinctly separated from a bottom panel where you find comments and descriptions. On each individual video, there are three clearly indicated options in the lower right to make the video larger. Playlists however seem to be minimized per video, although in the case of Downsized, which is a Partner, the season playlist seems to be visible under the video by default.

Then there is your channel page, which in Cosmic Panda, is way cleaner and kind of nifty. For those of you who have tried to follow series on their channels in old YouTube, you’ll know it was not always easy, unless you discovered a playlist or the uploader discovered annotations. In Panda, above the video, there are now three links: featured (video & playlists), videos (all of them, though separated neatly into your playlists), community (your recent activity). On the Panda channel page, your playlists are now prominent. Your channel description is now prominent. You can link your facebook and twitter. All of this can be altered by playing with your settings, although there appears to be a saving error at the moment.

You can test out the Cosmic Panda layout HERE and if you don’t like it, you can always go back.
