Tips for Building An Audience and Monetizing Your Web Series

Canada’s Independent Production Fund has been an amazing resource for raising the bar in web series production. They funded over $1,000,000 into dramatic web series last year, which resulted in some tremendous productions including the award-winning and delightful kids series Ruby Skye PI. They renewed their digital media program again this year, with additional financing being rewarded to dramatic web series.

Andra Shefer, the IPF Executive Director, was gracious enough to answer a few questions a few months ago about their program and how one can submit a show for possible financing HERE.

And now, marketer/publicist/filmmaker Julie Giles of GreenHAT Digital has put together an extensive 75-page guide to marketing and monetizing your web series for the IPF, which she has graciously shared to us digital chickies. This is by far the hardest aspect of web series production for most web series producers and marks the most common question I am asked, and I am floored by the detailed work Ms. Giles put into this entirely free guide.

The guide touches on web site building, SEO, social media, blogs and sharing websites, and also includes a step-by-step template for your marketing plan! WOW!

Some highlights:

1) KNOW YOUR GOAL. “Knowing your goal will define what success means to you and your team.”
2) “Audience identification should start as early in the process as possible.”
3) “Now that producers have a direct relationship with their audience, it is less about the big spend and more about creativity and passion.”

Download the Guide HERE. It is absolutely and totally free and a MUST to have in your toolbox as a web series producer.
