Originally shot in 2009 but finally released this month through an exclusive deal with Daily Motion, Camera Obscura follows a young woman, Clara (Reagan Dale Neis), who inherits a camera from her abusive, alcoholic grandfather that has some technical issues– as in, trapping supernatural creatures in it. Psychological horror has long put complicated and curious women as their leads: Rosemary’s Baby, Scream, The Ring, Dark Water– so it’s nice to see that spirit (no pun intended) brought to the web, and Reagan Dale Neis handles the brainy, tormented reigns well. The show has enough special effects for the horror fan, enough creepy monsters for the fantasy fan, enough moody cinematography for the cinema fan, and enough character for the drama fan, which makes it a perfect show to get your Halloween scare on.
