A Sundance selection in 2009, dark comedy Abbie Cancelled has been screened at a long list of festivals over the span of 2009 before it landed itself online on Babelgum. The premise is this: Two young professional couples who have never met are forced to endure the most uncomfortable, humiliating dinner ever, when Abbie, their mutual friend who was supposed to introduce them, cancels at the last minute. Awkward! Fueled by smart, authentic performances by a talented cast and sharp writing by the team of Jessica Burstein and Robbie Norris, Abbie Cancelled is an absurdist dramedy about the hidden agendas of four New Yorkers looking to move up in the world.
