An intelligent social melodrama created by filmmaker Amanda Cole and developed throughout 2009-2010, Peripheral City focuses on an ensemble of troubled inhabitants of Williamsburg including a young immigrant woman with a Jesus Complex, a diabetic prankster, a pregnant woman, a suicidal businessman, and a junkie, as they find themselves connected at a temporary soup kitchen. Smart, foreboding, and utterly unique, Cole inhabits a world just on the fringe of contemporary society, where industry and technology surround yet survival is still moment-to-moment, and life is both odd and hilarious.

Cole, a feature film writer who decided she was tired of waiting to see projects produced, self-produced the first episode of this artistic web series with “food stamps and cab fare”, then turned to Kickstarter to raise the remainder of the 4-episode series. The cinematography is stunning and the cast features some seriously strong actors from film and NY theatre. If you are a fan of true independent cinema, then you will be more than pleased to see Peripheral City bringing that courageous, non-conformist spirit to the web.
